No DUI Larimer Supports Young Adults in Larimer County

We are pleased to share this overview of No DUI Larimer’s collaborations with other local organizations dedicated to nurturing a safe and vibrant community for young adults in Larimer County. As advocates for preventing impaired driving, we understand the critical role partnerships play in fostering awareness along with a culture of responsibility and support.

Impaired driving disproportionately affects young adults, with 70% of DUI arrests in Fort Collins in 2023 involving drivers under 30 years old. The age group most likely to drive impaired is teens and young adults ages 16-24. We strive to support initiatives aimed at empowering youth and young adults, promoting safe choices, and building a brighter future for everyone in our NoCo community.

Thank you to each of our community partners for their work benefiting young adults in Fort Collins, Loveland, Estes Park, Windsor, and beyond.

CHIPPER’S LANES

As a generous community partner of No DUI Larimer, Chipper’s Lanes entertainment centers – offering bowling, laser tag, arcade games, and more – raises awareness about impaired driving in Larimer County through displays on bowling screens, printed signage, and kiosks designed by our No DUI team.

Chipper’s also donates “FUNBUCKS,” gift cards for a $10 credit toward activities at Chipper’s Lanes, that include a QR code to access our website for tips to prevent impaired driving. Our team distributes these at local events, including Oktoberfests, music festivals, university events, and events by our nonprofit partners.

For the past three years, No DUI Larimer has been an in-kind sponsor of this event series, paying for printing, providing materials and online promotion, and donating over $5,000 of FUNBUCKS – $10 gift certificates to Chipper’s Lanes – to be distributed to each student who attends.

FOCOMX

FoCoMX is Fort Collins’ largest live music event, put on by local nonprofit FoCoMA (Fort Collins Musicians Association) and Odell Brewing Co. and drawing thousands of attendees each year.

Thanks to No DUI Larimer steering committee member Josh Beard, owner of Mulberry MAX Liquor Store, we are able to raise awareness about impaired driving in Larimer County and encourage festival-goers to secure a safe ride home through signage at festival check-in.

fchs after prom

FCHS AFTER PROM

Fort Collins High School serves nearly 2,000 northern Colorado students, many of whom attend Junior or Senior Prom as a rite of passage in young adulthood. Unfortunately, 1/3 of teen traffic fatalities occur during prom and graduation season.

After-proms are designed to reduce the number of impaired teens on the road after prom ends, providing late-night snacks, non-alcoholic drinks, activities, and a place to gather with friends instead of driving home drunk or high. Sadly, after-proms in Larimer County are greatly underfunded, and the number is diminishing each year.

No DUI Larimer provides both paid and in-kind sponsorships to FCHS After Prom each year – beyond our monetary donation, we pay for printing and provide materials and online promotion, as well as over $5,000 of FUNBUCKS to Chipper’s Lanes to be distributed to each high schooler who attends.

FRONT RANGE COMMUNITY COLLEGE WELLNESS COMMITTEE

No DUI Larimer supports Front Range Community College’s Wellness Committee, dedicated to improving overall wellbeing of students currently attending FRCC. No DUI Larimer provides in-kind sponsorship of Wellness Committee events, paying for printing, providing materials and online promotion, and donating over $2,000 of FUNBUCKS to be distributed to students.

RAMRIDE – COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY

RamRide, a long-running program at Colorado State University, offers safe rides home for students by student volunteers. RamRide offers Friday and Saturday nights, offering free rides to students within Fort Collins who don’t feel they can drive home safely.

RamRide has partnered with No DUI Larimer to display information in CSU’s Student Life offices and inside RamRide vehicles. Our team meets with RamRide throughout the year to discuss organizational struggles, needs, and opportunities.

Currently, RamRide is experiencing a lack of funding and student volunteers, and has had to limit service days. We encourage anyone who can volunteer their time or assist in any other way to help us support this desperately needed service for university students.

COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY EVENTS

The No DUI Larimer team sponsors as many youth-attended events as possible each year, including events for Colorado State University students. Our booth is now a regular at the annual Housing Fair, an event where new students can view housing options, learn about laws and regulations in Fort Collins, and find resources such as housing and food assistance.

Each year, we educate new students about statewide impaired driving laws through trivia games, offer tips sheets for avoiding driving impaired, raise awareness of Fort Collins’ Safe Choice overnight parking program, and provide resources for those struggling with substance abuse.

Through strategic partnerships with these local organizations, No DUI Larimer amplifies our ability to empower and educate teens and young adults most at risk of driving impaired – potentially taking their own life or someone else’s. We hope this community presence will help us to address what is a community crisis.

No DUI Larimer encourages all of our readers: Educate yourself about how substances affect you and how you can avoid driving impaired – take charge of your future. Make the Right Call.
